May 26th meeting was at Maplelane Farm owned by Mary, Barry, & BJ
Higgins. The meeting was started by our speaker, Maine Comissioner of
Agriculture Seth Bradstreet. He talked about what programs and grants
were available through the Maine Department of Agriculture and how
farmers could better utilize and communicat e with the department. The evening's refreshments featured steak, three different types of sausage, as well as bacon. What a wonderful taste test! Following refreshments Barry gave the group a tour of their new smoking facility. This addition has allowed them to grow their business and maintain their commitment to quality and consistent meat production.All of our meetings are open to any and all interested individuals. Our summer meetings are held at member farms and feature a tour of the farm as well as discussion of what the member farmer produces. Following the tour is a short business meeting. Our regular meetings October through April are held the 4th Wednesday of every month at the Piscataquis County Extension Office, 165 Main Street, Dover Foxcroft, Maine. The first hour of our meeting features a guest speaker offering educational opportunities for area farmers to learn about rules and regulations, marketing strategies, expanding value added products, and business growth and development. All meetings are open to any interested individuals. Membership is not required for attendance. Summer meetings May through September are held at Member Farms.
