Our Orchard

Presently there are 300+ trees in the orchard. Given the size of the orchard keeping it mowed is an almost daily task. Other tasks include pruning and spraying. When spraying we use Integrated Pest management. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.

IPM is not a single pest control method but, rather, a series of pest management evaluations, decisions and controls. In practicing IPM, growers who are aware of the potential for pest infestation follow a four-tiered approach. The four steps include: Set Action Thresholds,Monitor and Identify Pests,Prevention and Control.

Available varieties of apples are as follows: Jersey Macs, Empire, Red Delicious, Macintosh, Cortland, Pippins, Red Astrachan, Ida Reds, Wealthy, Nod Heads and Northern Spy. In season fruits and vegetables are available at the farm stand. We expect to have pumpkins, squash, and gourds later on in the season and we will hopefully (Hens willing!) have farm fresh eggs available in the fall. Our Farm stand is open Saturdays and Sundays 9 AM to 3 PM, and during the week by chance. If you see our Open flag flying stop on by!
If you can't make it to the farm, stop and by and visit us at one of the local Farmer's Markets. We can be found at the Dexter Farmer's Market next to the P&L Market in Dexter, the Fairfield Farmer's Market, and at the Brewer Farmer's Market in Brewer. We are open for Pick Your Own Apples on weekends only. Varieties available include Jersey Macs, MacIntosh, Cortlands, and Ida Reds. We charge 50¢ per pound of apples picked. Bring the whole family for bushels of fun!!!
